INT'L GIRL-CHILD DAY: GIRL-CHILD IS AN ASSET TO THE NATION - OMOLOLA ALAWODE:

While observing the 2023 international day of the African Girl Child, under the theme "Invest in Girls' Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being", the wife of the Executive Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government, Mrs Omolola Oladunni Alawode has said that the girl-child is an asset to the nation and should be loved, respected and encouraged just like her male counterpart.
Mrs Alawode affirmed that girls are more talented, obedience, hard-working and responsible for the family and their lives. Girls are more caring and loving towards their parents and their family at large.
Speaking further, she said, girls need to be equipped with transferable and lifelong skills such as critical thinking, creativity and digital awareness and also be supported to develop their skills.
“A female child deserves a life where she is treated as equal to a boy. She should be respected, loved and given a chance to rule like their male counterpart,” she stressed.
The first International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated on October 11, 2012. This marked a significant moment as it focused global attention on issues such as gender-based violence, child marriage, and barriers to girls' education.
